After scrap tire recycling, pyrolysis technology can convert them into pyrolysis oil, pyrolysis carbon black, steel wire, and non-condensable combustible gas. Among these, the quality stability of pyrolysis oil and pyrolysis carbon black is an important indicator for subsequent deep processing. Once the disposal scale increases, whether product quality can remain stable has become increasingly important to customers planning to invest in comprehensive scrap tire pyrolysis utilization. Replacing batch equipment with high-end continuous equipment for rubber pyrolysis is becoming an industry trend.

The process principle of scrap tire pyrolysis: under oxygen-deficient conditions, waste tires are heated in a controlled manner, and the polymer chains in the rubber break, producing pyrolysis oil, carbon black, steel wire, and non-condensable combustible gas. The main components of the combustible gas are hydrogen and small-molecule alkanes. For scrap tire processing, the advantage of this technical route is that every product has an outlet, and the waste ultimately becomes raw materials that can re-enter the industrial system.

The destination of the products determines the project’s revenue structure. Pyrolysis oil is a light oil with relatively high aromatic content and low sulfur content. After deep processing, it can be used as a blending component for gasoline and diesel, or sent to refineries for blending. This pathway is commonly referred to in the industry as tire recycling to oil. After granulation, activation, and other deep processing, carbon black can be made into products of different specifications and returned to industrial segments such as rubber products and color masterbatch. Steel wire is high-strength alloy steel and can be used to make special steel shot after recovery. The operating mode of batch production lines determines their upper limit. Each processing cycle requires shutdown, cooling, discharging, and then reheating and restarting, cutting out a portion of the effective operating time each day; repeated temperature rises and falls also amplify product differences between batches. Continuous equipment connects feeding, pyrolysis, and discharging into one line, and the furnace body remains in the same temperature range for a long time. Energy consumption and product stability in rubber pyrolysis therefore benefit simultaneously, and projects with large-scale commercial operation are more willing to adopt this type of configuration.

A commercial production line operates through the coordinated operation of systems including feeding, pyrolysis, oil-gas condensation and separation, gas purification, solid product cooling, steel wire separation, and tail gas treatment; the purified non-condensable combustible gas returns to the furnace as fuel, and heat circulates within the system. After the tire recycling pyrolysis production line connects these links, the operating area is concentrated in one place, and on-site management is simplified accordingly. The engineering difficulties are concentrated in the operation stage. Dynamic sealing during feeding and discharging must be maintained over the long term, heat inside the reactor must be evenly distributed, and coking and oil-gas polymerization must be suppressed. If any one of these is handled poorly, continuous operation time will be shortened. When evaluating scrap tire processing solutions, what matters is the performance of the entire system over thousands of days of continuous operation; nominal capacity is only one of the indicators.

Niutech has accumulated nearly 40 years of experience in the field of organic waste pyrolysis. Its independently developed industrial continuous scrap tire pyrolysis production line requires no complex raw material pretreatment and can achieve efficient pyrolysis under the premise of safety and environmental protection, with pyrolysis oil, carbon black, and steel wire recovered separately. After activation, carbon black can be reused in tire manufacturing; the daily processing capacity of a single unit is over 100 tons, and temperature, pressure, and residence time are monitored in real time and continuously controlled by an intelligent system. The related technology and equipment have won the National Science and Technology Progress Award. As a pyrolysis equipment manufacturer, Niutech’s equipment has been sold to countries including Germany, Denmark, Brazil, Hungary, Turkey, Estonia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, and Iraq.
